John Woo’s Red Cliff U.S. Movie Trailer - Slashfilm.com

It seems like it's taken forever for the U.S. release of John Woo's epic Red Cliff, but now it's finally scheduled for a November release — and we have the U.S. trailer to prove it. Even though it's taken us so long to get the film domestically, we're still getting screwed over since we're receiving the condensed version of Woo's original vision. Red Cliff was originally released in China (and other Asian markets) as two films totaling 4 hours. Outside of Asia, the film was edited down to 2 1/2 hours.

Still, I'm interested in seeing how it works at a shorter clip. I've only seen the first part of Red Cliff at this point and there's definitely quite a bit of fat that could be trimmed. Given that the condensed version has lost 1 1/2 hours though, major scenes must have been cut as well.

The trailer focuses on the film's visual splendor with epic battle sequences and widescreen vistas aplenty. As is typical with foreign film trailers, the leads (in this case Tony Leung and Takeshi Kaneshiro) aren't featured much, but at least their names get displayed at one point.

The film is a retelling of the battle of Red Cliff during the Han dynasty in ancient China, and is based upon the historical text Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms. Woo avoided pulling too much from the more fictionalized Romance of the Three Kingdoms in favor of historical accuracy.

You can also view the trailer in glorious HD over at Apple. Red Cliff hits theaters on November 20, 2009. If you'd rather hunt down the longer version of the film, the first part is available at pretty much every import store online with the second soon to follow.

Posted: 03 Oct 2009 09:20 PM PDT

The trailer of Kurbaan was released with Wake up Sid and producer Karan Johar shared the first look of his eagerly anticipated film via Twitter. Kurbaan stars the real life couple of the moment, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

The film is directed by Rensil D'Silva and is set against the backdrop of global terrorism.

Kareena Kapoor is based in the US and is forced to rush back to her home town Delhi after her father suffers a heart attack. Once there, she meets Saif Ali Khan, a Delhi University Professor and falls in love with him.

After marriage and a return to the US, the couple settle down and dream of starting a family but the perfect picture is about to be ripped apart.

What follows is a rollercoaster ride as Kareena discovers that her husband Ehsaan (Saif Ali Khan) is not professor but a mastermind terrorist who has used her to safeguard his cover. Ehsaan realizes that Kareena has discovered the truth and puts her under house arrest.

Enter Vivek Oberoi, a high profile TV journalist who works with a news network in US.

Kareena finds out that Ehsaan and his unit are plotting to hijack and bomb an aeroplane, a flight in which Vivek will also be a passenger.

Kareena battles to save the lives of innocent people, while her husband seeks mass destruction.

10 Blatant B-Movie Knock-Offs - Paste Magazine

Posted: 03 Oct 2009 03:08 PM PDT

3. The Da Vinci Treasure (2006): Wait a second, isn't that guy from the real Alien vs. Predator?

4. Snakes On A Train (2006): "100 Trapped Passengers... 2,000 Venomous Vipers!"

5. Sunday School Musical (2008): Putting the "hip" in worship.

6. The Terminators (2009): Not sure how they're getting away with this one.

7. Transmorphers (2007): The only thing that kept Michael Bay from taking this to court was the stark realization of how he'd be calling attention to a movie vastly superior to his own.

8. The Day The Earth Stopped (2008): A clever use of synonyms. Unfortunately, Keanu Reeves was turned down for the lead role.

9. 100 Million BC (2008): A much lower-budget prequel to the 2008 10,000 BC.

10. 18 Year Old Virgin (2009): Oddly enough, the premise isn't as far fetched as Judd Apatow's The 40 Year Old Virgin.
