'Love Happens' doesn't get much love - St. Louis Post-Dispatch Posted: 18 Sep 2009 01:21 AM PDT Burke Ryan (Aaron Eckhart) is a self-help guru who urges people to put tragedy behind them and get on with their lives. And that's not easy for him to say. Ryan is still mourning the death of his wife. In flashbacks, we see a car swerving to avoid hitting a dog, and a woman being crushed. Although Ryan is a great talker, there's one detail about the accident that remains unspoken. That secret is at the core of "Love Happens," a well-meaning but disappointing drama that also stars Jennifer Aniston as Eloise, a flower shop proprietor with whom Ryan would like to jump start his life. Working from a screenplay that he co-wrote with Mike Thompson, director Brandon Camp keeps things moving at a measured pace. But having set up the tentative romance between Ryan and Eloise, Camp fails to generate much suspense. If you've seen even one romantic drama, you can pretty much figure out where this one is going. Eckhart, who started out in independent film and was brilliant in "In the Company of Men," turns in an adequate but unexciting performance. You get the sense that he's willing to take a few risks but lacks the necessary material. In a role that's not as prominent as the ads suggest, Aniston — who's still best known for the sitcom "Friends" — acquits herself well, despite the fact that Eloise is a woefully underdeveloped character. The supporting cast is splendid, including Martin Sheen as Ryan's antagonistic father-in-law, Judy Greer as Eloise's poetry-spouting employee, Dan Fogler as Ryan's ambitious handler and John Carroll Lynch as a surly seminar attendee. Unfortunately, their efforts are wasted. Although the film begins promisingly, it proves to be little more than a soap opera. "Love Happens" probably won't get much of it from moviegoers. LeBron to make leap to movies next summer - Winnipeg Sun Posted: 18 Sep 2009 01:28 AM PDT CLEVELAND -- LeBron James is leaving Cleveland -- for Hollywood. The Cavaliers superstar and reigning NBA MVP will make his feature film debut by playing himself in an upcoming comedy. James will appear in Fantasy Basketball Camp by Universal Pictures. The movie is about five guys from different backgrounds who come to Las Vegas to live out their fantasy by attending James' basketball camp. Production will begin next summer, when James can become a free agent. James is experienced in front of the camera. Along with appearing in numerous TV commercials, he has hosted Saturday Night Live. Producer Brian Grazer is convinced the all-star forward can make the transition to the big screen, as rapper Eminem did in 8 Mile. Grazer also produced that picture. James will be an executive producer on the project along with his business partner, Maverick Carter. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Zookeeper' monkeys evacuated from Boston hotel - Forbes Posted: 16 Sep 2009 12:07 PM PDT BOSTON -- Two movie-star monkeys and crew members of the Adam Sandler film "The Zookeeper" are among the 300 guests who were evacuated from a Boston hotel after carbon monoxide alarms went off. Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald says a small boiler leak at the luxury Liberty hotel prompted elevated readings at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. He says the leak was fixed early afternoon and no one was hurt. Liberty spokesman Jim Treadway says the hotel has also hosted the non-animal stars of "The Zookeeper," but none slept over Wednesday. He declined to drop names. "The Zookeeper" made headlines earlier this month when a teenage boy fell into a lion pit at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston that was part of the movie set. No animals were in the area, and the boy was not badly hurt. Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved. What If Noby Noby Boy Was Movie, A Scary Movie - Kotaku.com Posted: 18 Sep 2009 01:57 AM PDT
It's not a movie, and as far as we know it will probably never be one. But, what if it was. What if! Would it be as lighthearted as the game? Or would it be scary as all hell. Let's fantasy. Let's. Thanks Jesse for the tip! This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
