Arnold Milfort, 27, of Dorchester, had posed as a Boston Zoo employee to get into the set for "The Zookeeper" Wednesday and fell 30 feet into a makeshift lion's den, where a net broke his fall, authorities said.

Milfort was taken to Boston Medical Center with a serious head injury, the Boston Herald reported.

He was not identified until he arrived at the medical center. The first emergency workers who arrived at the zoo had identified him as a juvenile, fire department spokesman Steve MacDonald said.

The zoo's only lion was in another pen and there were no other animals nearby.

Baby's new Diggs

Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs are new parents of a baby boy.

A publicist for the actors said Walker Nathaniel Diggs was born Wednesday. "Mother, father and son are all doing well," Jessica Kolstad said in a statement Thursday.

Walker is the first child for Diggs and Menzel, both 38. The couple wed in 2003.

They met on the Broadway production of "Rent" in 1996. Diggs currently stars on ABC's "Private Practice." Menzel starred in "Wicked" on Broadway and in the 2007 film "Enchanted."

Probation for Petty

Court records show actress Lori Petty will serve five years' probation after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor drunken-driving charge.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney says Petty, 45, entered the plea through her attorney and has already completed some of the terms of her sentence, which include alcohol abuse counseling.

Petty was arrested May 30 after allegedly hitting a skateboarder with her car in the Venice Beach area.

Petty's film credits include "Point Break," "Tank Girl" and "A League of Their Own."

Drew gets rolling

Drew Barrymore wants all movie and/or roller skating fans to join her in suburban Detroit next week for a get-together in support of her new movie.

Barrymore is making her directorial debut with next month's "Whip It," which filmed scenes in Michigan and is centered on the world of roller derby.

The 34-year-old actress and filmmaker will walk the red carpet and host the skating event Sept. 11 at Bonaventure Skating Center in Farmington Hills.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own skates, or they can rent them for a fee.

Barrymore also produced and appears in "Whip It," which stars Ellen Page as a small-town Texas teenager who becomes a roller derby star.

Gaynor: Isle be back

Actress Mitzi Gaynor is returning to Kauai for the first time since filming "South Pacific" there half a century ago.

The Kauai Visitors Bureau said Thursday that Gaynor will make two appearances in early October.

The first will be at the reopening of the St. Regis Princeville Resort, which is at the same location where the song "Some Enchanted Evening" was performed in the classic musical released in 1958.

Gaynor's second appearance will be "An Afternoon with Mitzi Gaynor" at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club, during which the 77-year-old actress will reflect on her career and the filming of the movie, which featured her singing "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair."

Court to give same-day audio in Clinton movie case - Salon

Posted: 04 Sep 2009 10:34 AM PDT

Sep 4th, 2009 | WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court will release audio tapes soon after Wednesday's argument in a case about limits on campaign spending by corporations and labor unions.

The court said Friday it has agreed to a request by the C-SPAN cable network for the quick release of audio in the case that involves a movie, made by a conservative group, that was harshly critical of Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential ambitions. The court most recently made same-day audio available after arguments over a key provision of the federal Voting Rights Act in April.

C-SPAN said it expects to air the audio recording soon after the argument concludes, probably around 11:30 a.m. EDT.

The immediate, same-day release of audio tapes following arguments in major cases started in the 2000 presidential election, when the justices decided appeals of the Florida recount controversy in favor of George W. Bush.

The court records arguments and ordinarily releases them at the end of each term. With television cameras barred from the court and reporters prohibited from using tape recorders in the courtroom, the availability of audio provides the public with a chance to hear the justices at work.

The case is Citizens United v. FEC, 08-205.

AP Sources: YouTube may offer online movie rentals - Times & Democrat

Posted: 04 Sep 2009 10:37 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) — YouTube, Google Inc.'s online video streaming service, is in talks with Hollywood studios to rent new release movies online, according to people familiar with the talks.

The move follows similar deals by Apple Inc.'s iTunes and others.

A final deal would be contingent on pricing and an agreed-upon release date, said the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because discussions were still ongoing.

The move takes YouTube one step away from an ad-supported business model, but does not break the mold of other online rental deals already struck by iTunes, Amazon.com Inc. and Cinemanow.com, a unit of Sonic Solutions. All of them offer movie rentals for between $1.99 and $3.99 each with a 24-hour viewing period.

The talks were first reported on The Wall Street Journal's Web site Wednesday.

Discussions were most advanced with Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., Sony Corp.'s movie studio, Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., all of which already have ad revenue-sharing deals with YouTube, the people said.

The Internet site declined to comment specifically on the talks.

"While we don't comment on rumor or speculation, we hope to expand on both our great relationship with movie studios and on the selection and types of videos we offer our community," said YouTube spokesman Chris Dale.

If YouTube becomes a rental channel for movie studios, it would mark a return to what Google used to do before it bought YouTube for $1.76 billion nearly three years ago. Besides offering free looks at short clips, Google Video sold the right to view some movies and TV shows.

Google got out of the online video rental business shortly after it bought YouTube and poured more resources into building a larger audience for YouTube's totally free service.

YouTube is still unprofitable although Google management says it's close to making money, thanks to all the ads on there now.

According to a person with direct knowledge of the deals in the works, YouTube plans to begin a three-month test of the online rental service this month.

Every studio would likely come to different terms, but most would receive around 60 percent of the revenue from each rental, with a floor of about $2.40 that could vary depending on the age of the title, the person said. That's very similar to the studios' deals with other online outfits, as well as those agreed upon with cable operators such as Comcast Corp., which offer videos on demand.

The "window" — or the time lag between the sales date of DVDs and their rental, which is meant to protect sagging DVD sales — could be 30 days or more.

However, Warner Bros. has been allowing video-on-demand rentals on the same day that its DVDs hit retailers. The move has boosted sales and not hurt physical disc rentals, which don't generate as much profit as digital ones.

Carla Bruni Accepts Woody Allen's Movie Offer - Starpulse.com

Posted: 04 Sep 2009 10:13 AM PDT

Carla Bruni Accepts Movie OfferFrance's first lady Carla Bruni has reportedly accepted Woody Allen's offer to star in one of his films.

Allen visited Paris back in June and announced his desire to sign the wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy up for a film project.

He told journalists, "I'm sure she would be wonderful. She has charisma, and she performs, so she's not a stranger to an audience, and I would cast her in many different ways. I don't have a story at the moment, but you know, maybe even I'll ask her, if she's interested."

Now it appears Allen's wish has come true - French newspaper Le Parisien claims Bruni has agreed to his request and will work with the famed director in a new movie, scheduled to begin filming next year.

The publication reports, "Carla Bruni has accepted his proposition to star in one of his films. Her acting experience, however, is rather limited."

Bruni, a model and singer, had a small role in 1994 movie Pret-A-Porter.
