Procter & Gamble Co. and Walmart are teaming up to create a "family-friendly" TV movie that will air this spring. According to a story from CNBC and Reuters, the two companies will produce "Secrets of the Mountain," a two-hour movie that will air on NBC in April. The movie is about the adventures of a mother and her family in a mountain cabin. P&G and Walmart will air commercials during the program and will place products in the movie itself, according to the story. The companies said the project is "in direct response to research which reveals that parents across America are seeking more family-oriented entertainment for the whole family to enjoy together," according to the story. Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) is one of the world's largest consumer products makers. Walmart (NYSE: WMT), based in Bentonville, Ark., is the world's largest retailer. Movie Review: Likable actors, Greek myths - Merced Sun-Star Posted: 12 Feb 2010 01:59 AM PST Message from fivefilters.org: If you can, please donate to the full-text RSS service so we can continue developing it. The film follows the same formula as "Harry Potter" -- blending the mystical with the mortal to create a world-threatening situation that only three young warriors can stop. Percy (Logan Lerman) becomes the focus of the wrath of the Greek gods when he is suspected of stealing the main lightning bolt from Zeus. While still trying to process that he is a demigod (the offspring of a god and mortal), Percy must wade into the world of the gods to save his mother and the planet. He gets help from a wise-cracking guardian (Brandon T. Jackson) and a warrior demigoddess (Alexandra Daddario). Columbus, who directed "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," brings energy to this youth-oriented adventure. The director knows how to pace big special-effects sequences to keep the movie from lagging. Craig Titley's take on Rick Riordan's popular book shows a dry sense of humor, including having Hades exist under Hollywood. The weakest moments come from veteran actors Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman, who go so far over the top with their performances that they would sail high over Mt. Olympus. Overall, "Percy Jackson" has the potential to be the next franchise that can keep young and old happy. Move over Harry Potter, there's a new young champion of the movie block.
